Many just misuse the term cultural appropriation so that only American culture is used worldwide and the rest forgotten. Because apparently to this online people everyone wearing western clothes is fine, but no one dare to wear non western clothes. Every culture copies stuff and changes it a lot. Like many African language use the Latin script but changed the pronunciations a lot.

IMO folk need to simply "get over it" when it comes to what I see as cultural hyper-sensitivity. So what if some Americans call an Asian dish by the name "Pot Stickers" in lieu of an Asian word or term for the dish (or a similar dish, as 'Mericans often tweak recipes)? Do you expect 'Mericans, Brits, Mexicans, et al to teach their tongues to properly pronounce each foreign word (with proper tone even)? And do you expect everyone to always retain the original name of an item - even within their own culture let alone apart from it? Really? My advice: Get over it folks (& watch things improve). Re: Kimono & other clothing... So what? Isn't a movie cirrently being made about a Black samurai? Answer: Methinks so. And do you think he had to wear only African garb while in Japan for fear of cultural appropriation? Do you think for a moment that common folk in the street would've boldly approached a Black samurai & challenged his right to wear Japanese clothing? Really? This is a question I always wondered about. I love different cultures fashion and I love kimonos!! Always wanted to wear one but as much as I can't stand when people are culture vultures to the black community I don't want to do anything that will make another culture feel like that's what I'm doing.

Someone already said it, but I'll go further. White people love to call everyone hypocrites if they do anything that even seems similar to the wrongs they continually do, even if it's clearly different. Cultural appropriation is demonstrated by saying jazz, rock 'n roll, and lately hip-hop are white creations and not African American. Or by a bunch of white people of Roman, Frankish, or Turkish descent claiming to be Egyptian, an African nation and culture, when they are clearly European invaders who wanted to claim a culture they admired more than their own; and sometimes claiming both. Not many care if you adopt the ways of their culture. That's not cultural appropriation. They do care when you claim the best parts of their heritage as your own, get an army of 'experts' to claim such a lie is scientific, and then get the world to believe that you are the one who has the deciding voice in another race's culture that was passed down to them for generations. That's cultural appropriation, and white people do it to other races continually.

I'm kinda perplexed by this nonsense of Japanese people being pressed over seeing black people??? There are to this day, military installations all over Japan, at least 23 bases. Now whether or not they can speak Japanese is a whole new story, but black men and women are there and have been there since the ending of WWII. I scratch my head seeing this beautiful black woman trying to expose these people to blacks....trust me, they've seen us before????

From Japanese perspective, not sitting next to someone is a form of respect. (Unless you smell really bad) . Especially if you are wearing expensive cloth or have complicated hair people will make space. Because what if it gets tangled and damages that person's belongings. The fact people are saying it is because Japanese hate foreigners are warped. By the way, if you are men and there are choice of seat between sitting next to woman or man, sit next to man. When i visited japan a week ago and went to a rental place, the staff and other visitors were so nice! And when i stood outside waiting for my sister a group of girls walked by and said "aah kawaii" while looking at me and it was such a nice moment 😭❤️ it sure looks like only people not being part of the culture (mostly..what i experienced where american people...) call anything cultural appropriation any second you do something not from your own culture. And i now own a cute red/pink yukata with bunnies on it. i need to learn how to tie the obi so i can wear and enjoy it ❤️

you never know her mom is Japanese or her dad is Japanese. Who cares is she black she's beautiful like everybody every country in every state probably every continent and you never know how life it is to her.
